For dysmenorrhea, moxibustion is commonly applied to the Guanyuan point (CV4). Moxibustion at Guanyuan is effective in treating menstrual pain and yields particularly good results. Pressing or applying moxibustion to the Guanyuan point produces a warming effect on the meridians and helps relieve pain; therefore, appropriate moxibustion may be used for those experiencing dysmenorrhea. During menstruation, it is advisable to rest adequately, avoid catching a cold, and maintain good genital hygiene. Moxibustion therapy can be used to treat dysmenorrhea in women. Its most important function is warming the meridians and dispelling cold, as well as supporting yang energy, preventing collapse, and resolving blood stasis and cold accumulation, thus effectively preventing illness and promoting health.
