Early syphilis oral ulcer morphology
Disease description:
The sore in the mouth is oval-shaped. The doctor said it's an early syphilis oral ulcer. What does an early syphilis oral ulcer look like?
In the early stage, oral syphilitic ulcers generally do not present with significant symptoms. They are usually round in shape with well-defined margins, surrounded by a moat-like depression, and have a flat base. When touched, they feel firm like cartilage. The ulcer appears pink, with a small amount of serous discharge on the surface containing numerous somatic cells, and is surrounded by inflamed, reddened tissue. Of course, oral syphilitic ulcers exhibit obvious inflammatory reactions and may also cause pain. Typically, these ulcers heal spontaneously within 3 to 8 weeks.
