Long-term tonsillar hypertrophy can be treated with antibiotic medications under a doctor's guidance, commonly including cefuroxime and ampicillin. These may be combined with glucocorticoid nasal sprays such as budesonide nasal spray or mometasone furoate nasal spray. If symptoms are severe and the above medications prove ineffective, patients can go to the hospital for surgical removal of the tonsils.
