Is atherosclerosis a type of cardiovascular disease?
Disease description:
Recently, my father was diagnosed with atherosclerosis during a full-body medical checkup. May I ask if atherosclerosis is considered a cardiovascular disease?
Atherosclerosis is not classified as a cardiovascular disease itself. Symptoms can be improved with medication as prescribed by a doctor. However, if patients do not receive timely treatment, prolonged atherosclerosis may lead to cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases. Therefore, prompt treatment is essential upon detection of atherosclerosis. In daily life, patients should quit smoking and alcohol consumption, and avoid eating fried foods.
