What is thalamic hemorrhage?
Disease description:
A friend of mine didn't feel well and, after examination, was found to have a brain hemorrhage, specifically a thalamic hemorrhage. I was told this condition is quite serious. So, what exactly is a thalamic hemorrhage?
Thalamic hemorrhage usually refers to bleeding occurring in the thalamus. The thalamus primarily controls bodily sensations; therefore, bleeding in this area may cause patients to experience abnormal symptoms such as impaired sensation or numbness in limbs. If the amount of bleeding is large, it may also lead to limb paralysis. Additionally, if the lesion extends into the lateral ventricle, it may cause disturbances in consciousness.
