Excessive vaginal discharge is caused by infections, diseases, or other factors. Vaginal discharge is secreted by glands in the cervix and vagina. Normal discharge is milky white and minimal in amount, with an increase in volume and stretchy consistency during ovulation due to hormonal changes. If a bacterial infection occurs—such as from fungi or trichomonas—the color of the discharge may change noticeably.
