The cause of glaucoma is generally elevated intraocular pressure leading to ocular symptoms, characterized by optic nerve atrophy and optic nerve damage. Most cases result from abnormalities in the aqueous humor drainage system or blockage caused by the surrounding iris. For glaucoma, intraocular pressure can be reduced by decreasing aqueous humor production or enhancing drainage pathways, thereby preventing damage to visual function.
