Disease description:

I noticed my son had a slight case of phimosis since childhood, and I heard it might resolve on its own. At what age does childhood phimosis typically improve?

Phimosis in children usually resolves by the age of three to four years. As children grow older, the penis becomes longer and larger. In cases of phimosis, more smegma tends to form, and its accumulation promotes separation between the foreskin and glans. Around the age of four, phimosis often resolves spontaneously. However, in a small number of cases, phimosis may persist and fail to resolve over time. Generally, circumcision should be performed before school age.
