What causes yellowing of the whites of the eyes?
Disease description:
When I woke up this morning, I noticed that my husband's whites of the eyes appeared slightly yellow. I'm not sure if he's sick, but I'd like to know what could be causing this condition.
Yellowing of the whites of the eyes may result from consuming foods high in carotene, such as carrots and pumpkins. It could also indicate abnormal liver metabolism—for example, significantly elevated bilirubin levels in the body can lead to generalized yellowing. Additionally, excessive fatigue or eye trauma may also cause this condition.
