Fatty liver may lead to elevated alanine aminotransferase (ALT) levels. This occurs because fatty liver causes hepatocyte necrosis, resulting in the release of ALT from liver cells into the bloodstream, thereby increasing ALT levels. When fatty liver leads to elevated ALT, it indicates liver damage, and at this point, certain oral medications should be taken, such as glycyrrhizin preparations or reduced glutathione tablets.
