What causes sinusitis in children?
Disease description:
My daughter has recently been having pus-like nasal discharge and sometimes complains of headaches. After going to the hospital, she was diagnosed with pediatric sinusitis. What causes pediatric sinusitis?
Sinusitis in children may be triggered by exposure to allergens such as perfume and pollen, or factors like gastroesophageal reflux and purulent fibrosis. Chronic rhinitis, hypertrophied nasal turbinates, nasal foreign bodies, and deviated nasal septum can obstruct sinus drainage and ventilation, leading to respiratory infections that may subsequently cause sinusitis. Incomplete treatment of acute inflammation or recurrent episodes can also lead to the development of sinusitis.
