Pathological jaundice typically presents with rapid skin changes within a short time after 24 hours of birth. It initially appears as yellowing of the whites of the eyes, then spreads to the face and eventually the entire body. The symptoms of jaundice last for a prolonged period and do not resolve spontaneously, which may lead to poor mental status and weak sucking during feeding. Therefore, if jaundice persists for an extended period, prompt medical evaluation and treatment are essential.
