Symptoms of hypoxia in premature infants
Disease description:
My sister's child developed shortness of breath after birth, and we later learned it was due to oxygen deprivation in the premature infant. What are the symptoms of oxygen deprivation in premature babies?
Symptoms of hypoxia in premature infants include moaning, nasal flaring, cyanosis, restlessness, and persistent crying. They may also experience tachypnea, upward deviation of the eyes, poor responsiveness, and limb convulsions. Hypoxia in preterm infants may result from prematurity itself, or be caused by maternal respiratory dysfunction, improper body position, excessive mental stress, and other factors. Additionally, it cannot be ruled out that fetal hypoxia is due to nuchal cord or placental abruption.
