What are the symptoms of high jaundice in newborns?

High bilirubin levels in newborns typically cause yellowing of the skin. Jaundice caused by respiratory infections may lead to coughing, sputum production, and runny nose. Jaundice due to hemolytic disease can result in anemia, pallor of the skin and mucous membranes, and fatigue. Elevated neonatal jaundice may lead to secondary bilirubin encephalopathy, which often presents with various symptoms, including lethargy, refusal to feed, and difficulty breastfeeding.
