Occasional brief stabbing pain in the left chest may be caused by autonomic nervous system dysfunction due to excessive anxiety, high stress, or physical overexertion. This symptom can also occur in association with digestive system disorders such as gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) or hiatal hernia, or respiratory conditions including spontaneous pneumothorax, pleuritis, acute lung infection, and bronchiectasis. Additionally, it may be related to acute ischemic diseases such as acute myocardial infarction.
