What does it mean when a child has black stools?
Disease description:
I don't know what's going on with my child, but his first bowel movement was black. I'm worried he might be sick. What could cause a child to have black stools?
A child passing black stool may be due to consuming foods such as pig liver or duck blood, or caused by taking iron-containing medications, which are usually normal and will return to normal after a period of time. Additionally, if a child has conditions such as portal hypertension or gastric ulcers, gastrointestinal bleeding may occur, leading to black stools.
