Pediatric gastroesophageal reflux cough is generally associated with reflux esophagitis. Long-term irregular eating habits or frequent consumption of spicy, irritating, and hard-to-digest foods can lead to gastrointestinal dysfunction, resulting in reflux esophagitis. When food refluxes, it irritates the pharyngeal mucosa, causing mucosal damage and subsequent coughing. Treatment should be conducted under the guidance of a qualified physician, including medications that suppress gastric acid secretion, such as omeprazole or pantoprazole. Prokinetic agents to enhance gastric motility, such as domperidone or mosapride, may also be used, along with oral antitussive medications like dextromethorphan.
