Dr. Xie Zixing
If newborn jaundice is physiological, special treatment is usually not required. Simply increasing feeding and water intake can promote bilirubin excretion, and the jaundice typically resolves on its own. However, if it is pathological jaundice, such as hemolytic jaundice, phototherapy with blue light is generally needed to reduce unconjugated bilirubin levels in the newborn. In severe cases, exchange transfusion may be necessary.
