What causes bile duct tumors?
Disease description:
When I went to the hospital for a medical checkup today, the doctor told me I have a bile duct tumor. I would like to know what causes this disease?
Bile duct tumors may be caused by bile duct stones. Prolonged irritation from stones can lead to proliferative changes in the epithelium, resulting in bile duct tumors. Alternatively, they may result from biliary cystic dilation; in patients with cysts, stone formation or bacterial infection within the cyst can cause abnormal development of the pancreaticobiliary junction, leading to pancreatic juice reflux and consequently bile duct tumors.
