What does a negative nucleic acid test for Chlamydia trachomatis indicate?
Disease description:
Previously, I underwent testing for Chlamydia trachomatis, specifically a nucleic acid test, which came back negative. What does a negative nucleic acid test for Chlamydia trachomatis indicate?
A negative nucleic acid test result indicates that the patient likely does not have a chlamydial infection, which is a favorable sign. The absence of detected chlamydia infection suggests a lower probability of trachoma; however, inflammation caused by trachoma cannot be entirely ruled out. Generally, trachoma infection causes noticeable symptoms such as foreign body sensation, tearing, and thick, pus-like discharge. If patients develop symptoms, prompt treatment is necessary.
