Does vocal cord polyp removal require general anesthesia?
Disease description:
After I was diagnosed with a vocal cord polyp, I quickly scheduled surgery. Does removing a vocal cord polyp require general anesthesia?
Vocal cord polyps require general anesthesia. The surgical removal of vocal cord polyps is performed under general anesthesia using a supporting laryngoscope. Microscopic operation is necessary, so it is essential to have complete patient cooperation. Without general anesthesia, not only would the patient experience pain, but if the patient remains conscious, the vocal cords may remain tense and immobile, which could hinder the procedure and potentially worsen vocal cord function.
