Hoarseness on the second day after vocal polyp surgery is generally due to the residual effects of general anesthesia, as the anesthetic agents have not yet been fully metabolized. In some patients, pre-existing chronic vocal cord congestion, prolonged swelling, and hyperplasia with widened base result in more extensive surgical trauma. Surgical stimulation can make the vocal cords prone to prolonged swelling. Therefore, patients must strictly avoid voice use postoperatively to ensure adequate vocal rest.
