To clean the ears, sodium bicarbonate ear drops can be used to soften hardened earwax, after which the ear can be gently cleaned. For the outer ear, a clean medical gauze or cotton swab moistened with water can be used to gently wipe the ear canal, helix, and triangular fossa, removing any oily residue and dust. It is also recommended not to attempt ear cleaning at home by oneself. Self-cleaning may easily injure the outer ear canal wall, sometimes even damaging the eardrum and leading to hearing loss.
