Hydronephrosis may be caused by urinary tract stones or tumors of the urinary and reproductive systems, or it may result from benign prostatic hyperplasia or congenital developmental abnormalities. Additionally, it cannot exclude causes such as compression or invasion by lesions of adjacent organs or tuberculosis. Hydrothorax may be caused by increased vascular hydrostatic pressure or elevated capillary pressure, or it may result from decreased colloid osmotic pressure or impaired lymphatic return.
