What should be done for pneumohydrothorax (air and fluid in the pleural cavity)?
Disease description:
After examination, it was found that there is pleural effusion and also pneumothorax present in the chest cavity. What should be done in this situation?
For pneumohydrothorax, aspiration should be performed under the guidance of a physician. If dyspnea is present and symptoms are severe, chest tube insertion with closed drainage should be conducted under medical supervision. In cases where pneumohydrothorax results from rupture of pulmonary adhesions, thoracotomy for hemostasis is typically required. The condition usually gradually improves and eventually resolves completely.
