What causes redness, swelling, itching, and lumps in the vulva?
Disease description:
I've been feeling intense itching in the external genital area these past few days. Upon examining myself in the mirror, I noticed redness, swelling, and some bumps. What could be causing this?
Redness, swelling, itching, and bumps on the vulva may be caused by vaginitis due to bacterial or Trichomonas vaginalis infection. They could also result from contact dermatitis caused by an allergic reaction to sanitary napkins or panty liners. Additionally, if the patient is infected with human papillomavirus (HPV), leading to genital warts (condyloma acuminata), similar symptoms may occur. Another possibility is scabies, caused by infestation of the vulva with scabies mites.
