Dr. Ma Yan
The difference between short stature and dwarfism lies in their distinct concepts and causes. Short stature refers to an annual height growth rate of less than 5 cm, along with a height below the average for one's age group. Dwarfism is defined as an adult height of less than 120 cm. Short stature has a broader scope and is generally caused by endocrine disorders such as growth hormone deficiency (GHD), hypothyroidism, or other systemic diseases. In contrast, dwarfism is specifically caused by growth hormone deficiency, resulting in significantly reduced height, although intellectual development remains normal.
