Symptoms of closed bone age
Disease description:
The child hasn't experienced any height growth over the past year. My husband thinks it might be due to epiphyseal closure, and I would like to know what symptoms are associated with closed growth plates.
Symptoms of bone age closure mainly include the following:
1. Slowed height growth: After bone age closure, the rate of height increase in children significantly slows down, and growth may even stop completely.
2. Disappearance of growing pains: Some children experience growing pains during development; these pains typically disappear after bone age closure.
3. Stabilized body shape: Once the growth plates close, a child's body shape gradually stabilizes, with muscles becoming more defined in shape and contour, and weight and strength may also increase.
4. Decreased appetite: As bone age closes, the body's nutritional demands decrease, which may lead to reduced appetite.
These symptoms indicate that a child's skeletal growth is approaching or has reached maturity, and the potential for further height increase diminishes. If there are any concerns, it is recommended to consult a healthcare professional for a bone age assessment.
