What is the difference between fungal vaginitis and bacterial vaginitis?
Disease description:
Recently, I have frequently experienced symptoms of vaginal itching, and I suspected that I might have fungal vaginitis. However, after a hospital examination, the doctor diagnosed me with bacterial vaginosis. What is the difference between fungal vaginitis and bacterial vaginosis?
Vulvovaginal candidiasis, commonly referred to as fungal vaginitis, differs from bacterial vaginitis in terms of symptoms. Vulvovaginal candidiasis primarily causes symptoms such as vulvar itching, abnormal vaginal discharge, and urinary discomfort; bacterial vaginitis is characterized by increased vaginal discharge accompanied by vulvar itching and a burning sensation. The underlying causes also differ. Vulvovaginal candidiasis results from a decrease in lactobacilli, leading to excessive growth and proliferation of fungi; bacterial vaginitis is caused by mixed infections involving Gardnerella vaginalis and other anaerobic bacteria.
