Can right heart failure cause pleural effusion?
Disease description:
My father always feels discomfort in his heart, so I accompanied him to the hospital for a checkup. The doctor said my father has some right-sided heart failure. Can right-sided heart failure cause pleural effusion?
Right heart failure may lead to pleural effusion. Patients with right heart failure experience elevated venous pressure, resulting in severe edema in dependent parts of the body. As the disease progresses and becomes more severe, fluid may accumulate in body cavities such as the pleural or pericardial spaces, leading to pleural effusion. Prolonged heart failure may trigger kidney disease, causing decreased renal function and even renal failure.
