Signs that growth in height is about to stop may include increased muscle mass and the development of secondary sexual characteristics in boys, such as a deeper voice, enlarged testicular volume, and gradually increasing pubic and body hair. In girls, signs may include a slimmer body shape and breast development. Additionally, closure of the growth plates (epiphyseal lines) may also occur.
