When children are not growing taller, parents can observe physical changes. For example, if the calf muscles become increasingly firm and more pronounced in curvature, this may indicate that height growth has stopped. Obvious development of secondary sexual characteristics is also a sign—such as boys developing an early Adam's apple, deepening voice, or facial hair, or girls beginning breast development or experiencing early menstruation—all of which suggest that growth in height has likely ceased. Additionally, if there has been no significant change or only minimal increase in height over 1–2 years, this also indicates that growth has stopped. Once parents notice signs of stunted growth, they should promptly take their child to see a doctor for comprehensive evaluations including height, weight, and bone age assessments to determine the underlying cause. It is important to maintain a balanced diet to ensure children receive sufficient key nutrients such as protein, calcium, and vitamin D, while avoiding unhealthy eating habits like picky eating. Encourage children to engage in regular outdoor activities such as jumping rope, basketball, and swimming to support healthy physical development.
