The most common cause of anemia in children is nutritional iron deficiency anemia. Children are particularly susceptible to this condition mainly because their rapid growth and development lead to high iron requirements, yet their dietary iron intake is often insufficient. During infancy, children grow very quickly. If the foods provided contain little iron—such as breast milk or cow's milk, which are relatively low in iron—children may develop deficiencies. Therefore, it is important for children to consume more iron-rich foods such as black fungus (wood ear mushrooms) and kelp. Regular consumption of these foods can effectively prevent the occurrence of iron deficiency anemia.
