Disease description:

Recently, my eyes have been uncomfortable. I know it's due to dacryoadenitis, but I'm not sure whether it's acute or chronic, and I haven't gone to the hospital for an examination yet. What is the definition of acute dacryoadenitis?

Acute dacryoadenitis is a common ophthalmic condition, usually caused by acute infection of the lacrimal gland tissue located in the superolateral part of the orbit. Bacterial infections are most common, although in rare cases, acute dacryoadenitis can also be caused by viral infections. Typical manifestations include redness, swelling, warmth, and pain in the superolateral orbital region and lateral eyelid. There is significant tenderness on local palpation, and a mass may be palpable within the orbit. Systemic symptoms such as fever and preauricular lymphadenopathy may also accompany the condition.
