What should be done for elderly men with enlarged prostate causing inability to urinate?
Disease description:
In elderly patients with enlarged prostate causing urinary retention, indwelling catheterization can be used for treatment. Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) refers to prostate enlargement, primarily manifesting as progressive difficulty in urination, and timely urine drainage should be performed. Oral administration of α-1A receptor blockers, such as tamsulosin (Harnal) or silodosin (Urief), can significantly relieve symptoms. If the patient is in poor general condition and is unable to resume spontaneous urination after catheter removal, long-term indwelling catheterization or suprapubic cystostomy may be required.
