What is pearly penile papules?
Disease description:
Recently, I noticed many small bumps on my body while showering. I would like to know more about what pearly penile papules are.
Pearly penile papules, also known as hirsuties coronae glandis or penile papules, commonly occur in males aged 20 to 40 and represent a relatively common benign skin condition. The main clinical features include small, pearly, dome-shaped, translucent papules appearing along the corona of the glans penis or its margin. These papules are firm in texture and typically do not ulcerate. Poor hygiene, long foreskin (phimosis), and frequent masturbation are often associated with their development. Once formed, these papules generally have no significant impact on health and do not cause functional impairment. However, for cosmetic concerns or discomfort, treatments such as laser therapy or cryotherapy may be considered when necessary. Locally, boric acid soaks or wet compresses with gauze can also be applied. If secondary infection occurs, topical application of mupirocin ointment is recommended.
