What causes heartburn at night?
Disease description:
Last night, I experienced heartburn after dinner. Could you please explain what causes heartburn at night?
Nighttime heartburn is usually related to multiple factors. First, dietary habits play an important role—eating too quickly or excessively at dinner, or consuming too many spicy, greasy, raw, or cold foods can stimulate gastric acid secretion and cause a burning sensation in the stomach. Second, gastrointestinal disorders such as gastritis, reflux esophagitis, and gastric ulcers may also lead to heartburn due to excessive gastric acid secretion or damage to the gastric mucosa. In addition, cardiovascular conditions such as coronary heart disease may in some cases produce symptoms similar to heartburn.
To relieve heartburn symptoms, it is recommended to adjust eating habits. For heartburn caused by gastrointestinal diseases, acid-suppressing medications or gastric mucosal protectants may be taken as directed by a physician. If symptoms persist or worsen, timely medical evaluation is advised.
