Disease description:

Lately, when I look in the mirror, I've noticed that my skin appears somewhat yellowish, and I'm worried this might be due to iron deficiency anemia. Can iron deficiency anemia cause a pale, sallow complexion?

Iron deficiency anemia can cause the skin to appear pale yellow or white. It is primarily caused by inadequate nutritional intake and may also result from impaired iron absorption. However, it cannot exclude the possibility of excessive iron loss. Most individuals also experience dizziness or shortness of breath, and in severe cases, it may even lead to difficulty swallowing. Diagnosis can be made at a hospital through laboratory tests, and ultrasound and gastrointestinal endoscopy may be required when necessary.
