What causes recurrent geographic tongue?
Disease description:
The child has been suffering from geographic tongue for a year, with symptoms fluctuating between improvement and worsening. There hasn't been an effective treatment so far. I'd like to know what causes geographic tongue to recur?
Geographic tongue recurrence is generally associated with genetic factors, psychological factors, and local irritation. Geographic tongue is a congenital hereditary condition, commonly seen in infants and young children aged 6 months to 3 years. This condition may last for several months or even a lifetime, but it does not pose any threat to the patient's life. Infants with geographic tongue usually have no symptoms, although discomfort may occur after consuming certain irritating foods.
