Can respiratory alkalosis have sequelae?
Disease description:
A friend told me today that she recently had respiratory alkalosis. She's a bit worried about possible long-term complications and wants to know whether respiratory alkalosis can lead to sequelae.
Respiratory alkalosis can lead to sequelae. Patients with respiratory alkalosis may experience involvement of the nervous and cardiovascular systems. Mild cases may present with varying degrees of arrhythmias, such as frequent ventricular premature beats, while severe cases can result in life-threatening malignant arrhythmias. Prompt fluid replacement and correction of electrolyte imbalances can help prevent the occurrence of these complications and sequelae.
