Cerebral atrophy is caused by conditions such as Alzheimer's disease and motor neuron disease. Neurodegenerative diseases, including Alzheimer's disease and motor neuron disease, are major causes of chronic progressive damage to the nervous system. It may also result from long-term insufficient cerebral blood supply, a condition commonly seen in cerebral arteriosclerosis. This is primarily due to narrowing of the blood vessel lumen, which slows cerebral circulation and leads to prolonged ischemia in the brain.
