After spinal cord injury, recovery symptoms may include local pain, swelling, and numbness caused by movement or trauma. To some extent, improvements in the patient's quality of life and level of independence—such as normal urination and increased functional spinal cord levels—are associated with greater injury severity and longer rehabilitation periods, which also lead to poorer rehabilitation outcomes. Patients with spinal cord injuries should strengthen their rehabilitation training through acupuncture, hydrotherapy, pneumatic compression therapy, hot moist compresses, and fumigation. Rehabilitation training is divided into active and passive types, with passive training being the primary approach.
