Borderline personality disorder is difficult to cure. Individuals with borderline personality disorder often exhibit characteristics such as suspicion, excessive worry, unstable interpersonal relationships, distorted self-image, and emotional impulsivity. Most patients have had these traits since childhood, and because their personality issues are severe, the condition tends to be serious and complex, making it hard to treat. If symptoms such as impulsivity or agitation occur, sedatives may be used. Patients with emotional instability and irritability can benefit from tranquilizers. In cases of depression, antidepressant medications may be prescribed orally.
