Clinically, methods to assess whether the fallopian tubes are patent include tubal flushing under ultrasound and hysterosalpingography under X-ray. Hysterosalpingography is preferred over sonohysterography because it provides clearer visualization of the site of tubal obstruction and allows evaluation of uterine development and potential uterine anomalies. In contrast, tubal fluid infusion under ultrasound can only determine whether the tubes are open, but cannot reveal whether the tubes are elevated or rigid. Therefore, hysterosalpingography is recommended in clinical practice.
