What are the methods to check if the fallopian tubes are open?
Disease description:
After female fallopian tube blockage, the release of eggs and the transport of fertilized eggs into the uterus are affected. If a fertilized egg cannot form or implant into the uterine wall, infertility may result. Therefore, infertile patients should consider whether such issues exist. It is best to promptly undergo relevant medical examinations and receive active treatment after diagnosis. What methods are available to check if the fallopian tubes are open?
Clinically, methods to assess whether the fallopian tubes are patent include tubal flushing under ultrasound and hysterosalpingography under X-ray. Hysterosalpingography is preferred over sonohysterography because it provides clearer visualization of the site of tubal obstruction and allows evaluation of uterine development and potential uterine anomalies. In contrast, tubal fluid infusion under ultrasound can only determine whether the tubes are open, but cannot reveal whether the tubes are elevated or rigid. Therefore, hysterosalpingography is recommended in clinical practice.
