Can you run with knee arthritis?
Disease description:
I love running very much, but recently I was diagnosed with knee arthritis. I don't want to give up running as a way to stay fit, but I also don't want my condition to worsen because of it. So, can I still run with knee arthritis?
Knee arthritis patients should not run. During running, the knee joint experiences relatively high forces, which place excessive stress on the ligaments and joint capsule surrounding the knee. Additionally, the articular cartilage and meniscus within the joint suffer increased compression. This can worsen damage to the cartilage and meniscus, exacerbate strain and injury to the surrounding ligaments and joint capsule, intensify symptoms of knee arthritis, and accelerate disease progression, significantly affecting the patient's daily life.
