Disease description:

My wife is eight months pregnant, and our baby will be born soon. I've seen many posts online saying that newborns are prone to jaundice. Could you please tell us what nursing assessment methods are available for neonatal jaundice, so we won't feel overwhelmed or unprepared?

The diagnosis of neonatal jaundice primarily relies on skin color, stool color, and the infant's general condition. If a newborn shows yellowing of the face and trunk along with symptoms such as excessive sleepiness or persistent crying, this indicates a more severe condition requiring immediate medical treatment. If the newborn's urine and stool remain yellow but the overall physical condition is normal, increasing feeding frequency may help promote urination and bilirubin excretion, with recovery typically occurring within two weeks.
