Why does a child sleep with their mouth open?
Disease description:
Recently, I noticed that my child likes to sleep with his mouth open. What could be the reason for a child sleeping with an open mouth?
A child sleeping with an open mouth may be due to the following reasons:
1. When a child has a cold, nasal mucosal edema can cause nasal congestion and breathing difficulties, leading to mouth breathing during sleep.
2. If a child suffers from rhinitis, nasal congestion and impaired breathing may also occur, causing the child to prefer sleeping with an open mouth.
3. Adenoid hypertrophy, caused by congenital factors or chronic inflammatory stimulation leading to enlargement of the adenoids in the nasopharynx, can narrow the nasopharyngeal cavity and airway, resulting in mouth breathing during sleep.
