What causes a child to be short in stature?
Disease description:
My child at home is short in stature, and I would like to consult about what might be causing this.
The most common pathological cause of short stature in children is growth hormone deficiency. Growth hormone deficiency occurs before the closure of the epiphyseal growth plates—specifically, during the period prior to puberty—when there is insufficient secretion of growth hormone or defects in growth hormone receptors. Additionally, insensitivity to growth hormone can lead to reduced effectiveness of growth hormone, thereby disrupting the growth and developmental functions regulated by growth hormone.
