Clematis root (Wei Ling Xian) efficacy

Clematis root (Weilingxian) has therapeutic effects on arthritis and fish bone impaction in the throat. 1. Treatment of arthritis: Clematis root is somewhat effective for reactive arthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, sciatica, cervical spondylosis, and soreness or pain in joints. However, its analgesic effect is relatively mild. It can be used as an auxiliary herb in combination formulas, such as with Epimedium (Xianlingpi) and Dipsacus root (Chuanduanrou). 2. Treatment of fish bone impaction in the throat: When a fish bone is stuck in the throat, a decoction of Clematis root in rice vinegar can be slowly swallowed to alter esophageal movement.
