Does Clematis (Wei Ling Xian) cause kidney damage in nephritis?
Disease description:
My father-in-law has acute nephritis and is undergoing active treatment. However, he is taking Clematis chinensis (Wei Ling Xian) for other medical conditions. I would like to know whether Clematis chinensis could cause damage to the kidneys in cases of nephritis.
Clematis chinensis (Wei Ling Xian) can cause certain damage to nephritis. Although Clematis chinensis is a traditional Chinese herb known for eliminating dampness and wind and promoting meridian circulation, it has mild toxicity that may impair kidney function. The primary manifestation is acute tubular injury or necrosis. Therefore, individuals with nephritis should avoid taking Clematis chinensis as much as possible to prevent interference with the treatment of their condition.
